I found Paul Ryan's performance last night to be a confident, intelligent, well-thought-out, expertly delivered, broadly
knowledgeable, substance driven, self-controlled debate performance in
the face of a blustery, disrespectful Biden offering no more than empty
platitudes and downright lies. This may be harsh but as my daughter says, "it is what it is!". Regardless of what is now coming out of the "spin rooms", this debate was not close.
What I believe is that last night's debate
will have practically negligible impact on who comes out on top when all the
votes are counted next month. As the newcomer, Ryan held his own, and
in that he avoided hurting Mitt Romney. There was no gaff, no damaging sound
bite from Ryan that will dominate the news cycle, and avoiding that was
one of Ryan's most important tasks last night.
Fact checking will embarrass, if possible, Mr. Biden. It is never a good idea to throw the intelligence community under the bus. Leaks will follow that will skewer the Administration, and it will go on for the next 3 weeks.
Start packing, Mr. Biden. It is rapidly approaching departure time.
